YAY!!!!! I'm so excited I can start reading Uncanny again!!! Joe Casey is off the title, what a relief! I can now read the adventures of the Fuzzy Elf again! OH and another big plus, Northstar is oficially joining the team, finally an openly gay super hero in a mainstream comic book!!! Now we just gotta get Kurt outta the clergy!

Okay, first, obviuously you haven't been reading Uncanny. I'm a total critic when it comes to comic writing and the last few issues are awesome.
Second, I'm pretty sure that the priest thing will be resolved before Casey is gone, so you'll have to at least give him Kudos for that.
Third, I like that Northstar is joining the team, but I just hope they don't make him into one big gay stereotype or make the book a big gay joke.
Fourth, as is policy at this board, you may not knock a title until you have read it. You can say that you did not care for it when you read it, but you cannot assume that it is still as bad as it was, because most get better.
You're being writer-prejudice. And I can NOT STAND THAT!
Fifth, I'm editing the title of this thread, because I will not have such negativity on my board.

in total agreememnt with Knight Crawler... Casey is doing some damn fine writing lately, it is unfortunate that he felt obliged to leave because of childish behaviour such as this. mindlessly hurling not only professional but personal attacks at him after reading a couple issues not to their tastes. I mean you even admit to not having read it lately, and damn, it is GOOD right now, the Annual was one of the best things i've read in a very long time and 402 was very cool, better than New. i am so psyched for the next issue it's not even funny. it's too bad you'll miss Nightcrawler leaving the priesthood considering you wont read Uncanny while Casey is writing....

Now you are wrong on some of your points
I have been reading Uncanny up until last issue when I finally couldn't take it anymore. I then for the first time 20 years walked into my comic book store and dropped Uncanny X-Men. I was voting with my dollar. Uncanny X-Men was the worst comic book I have ever read. The characters were card board cut outs, the stories were rehashes and un original and my favorite character was acting like someone else. The one that really bothered me was the whole "Chmaber you have no choice, you are not normal, you must join our cult of the X-Men". Nightcrawler would have never done that!!! Not in a thousand years would Kurt say something like that to Chamber. Remember Kurt has always questioned Xavier's dream, possibly more than any other X-Man. Remember back in the day when Rachel first joined the X-Men and Kurt suggested to Chuck that maybe they should disband the X-Men? Kurt has never been a boy scout like Scott Summers, Kurt has always had his own vision which made him such a great leader in Exacalibur.
I am extremely happy Casey has chosen to leave the title, this can only be a good move. And on another note I have never slammed Casey personally, I'm sure he's a nice guy, I just hate his writing.

We just got the Uncanny Annual up here in the boonies so now I can finally read it. It's only... a month late or so.
If Casey is leaving, who is taking his place?

I'm not sad to see Casey go, but not estatic either. While I disliked all his issues except for Uncanny #399, I really liked the X-Corps idea, something with many possibilities. I also heard great things about the Annual, so I gotta check that out. Anyways, Casey might have gotten better with time, but he didn't take it, and the fans wouldn't let him. I hope he does well on further projects: He's not a bad writer per se.
As for who's the new writer, it's Chuck Austen or something, the guy who wrote Ultimate X-Men 13 and 14, and the War Machine mini-series.
I think he's dropping Chamber, and adding Northstar, and two others. Though I think a team of Nightcrawler, Archangel, Stacy X, Iceman, Wolverine part time, Xavier part time, Northstar AND two others is a WAY too big team, I'm crossing my fingers to have one of the addidions be Dazzler
Still, 9 members is a bit X-Treme (ha!
).
While I'm on the topic of teams being too big: Get rid of Davey, Lifeguard and Thunderbird please

*Blinks* What'd I miss? Oh well.
This the first I've heard that Casey was going bye-bye. I admit his first arc *cough* Poptopia *cough* wasn't so hot, but his book has gotten better ever since. I really like Stacy, the return of Sean, and look forward to the resolution of Kurt's little 'memory problem.'
I read the story on WizardWorld.com, and I didn't get much of an impression of Austen. His Ultimate work was pretty good, I admit, with a nice intro for the Cajun. Maybe if, as he says, he's a fan from back in the day then he may be able to bring some of the old spark into the new age. I like the progressive steps the X-Men have been taking, barring Claremont's book, and I hate to see him undo any of the good Casey did.
Whatever. It's like KC says, keep an open mind. I just hope he keeps Kurt on the team. Of course, after Casey's Supreme Pontiff is through with him, he may not be recognizable.

Hmmm, from what I have seen online, Casey's writing on the title is starting to improve. My comics shop still is not carrying it on shelf. They want a commitment to buy... Something I won't do for any title. I would think there are more forces at work than a few loud fans and would like to see the press release regarding this.
As far as it goes I disagree with how Casey portrayed the X-Men through 401. Under him we see Kurt has lost all vestiges of his old personality, he is dull. Logan has lost the fighting for control of his rage that made him interesting at all, now he just drinks. Why Stacy? Admittedly, I like her but would have preferred almost anyone else (particularly Kit Pryde, but Marrow is a close second).
As for this "new" story arc. For months we have seen the preliminary sketches for Ultimate X-Men with Banshee running a militant mutant organization. Since Casey is the first to publish it I won't call it plagiarism... but it feels a bit like "Oh look, what a cool idea..."
For all that I would not like to see him go. He is getting into his groove and it takes any good writer (outside of minis) about a year to get going. Casey has had to deal with some of the worst art that Marvel has produced. THAT gets tough when the art and story are considered one in a medium like comic-books.
I have to agree with Knight_Crawler on one point: eXiles is one of my favs. I will disagree with the blanket statements about Claremont's writing being cut-outs with superpowers attached but agree get rid of Lifeguard, Thunderbird, etc...

Ooh, Exiles talk!!!!!!
This is *so* my favorite comic right now. Quite possibly my favorite *ever*. It's just *such* great stories each month!!!!
About X-Treme...I *really* liked the developments around Sage, the scene where she was being manipulated by Mastermind was just one of the best scenes ever, not much dialogue, subtle transitions art-wise...but the rest of the vast cast have had little development. Rogue had some good things in the annual, possibly leading towards *better* control of her powers. Can it be????
But honestly, Neal, Davey and Ligeguard need to get lost. The Cameron siblings are just plot devices, Heather with her "save lives" gig, and Davey with his "warping" (Probably brought out by Sage's power to catalyse mutant powers). Sure, Neal and Davey are like, the hottest things to ever grace paper, but looks only take you so far
My preffered X-Treme team would be Storm, Rogue, Sage, Gambit and Shadowcat, screw the losers and Bishop's "I'm a cop" syndrom, heh.
